Guam laws require that parties to an uncontested divorce consent in a notarized writing, to the divorce and to the jurisdiction of the Guam courts.  Of course, any one on Guam can have their documents notarized in our office, free of charge. This includes clients that come to Guam for 7 days to meet the residency requirements.

If you are  living overseas and need to have documents notarized by a US notary, you have two main options:

  1. US Embassy or Consulate: Many US embassies and consulates provide notarial services to US citizens. You can contact the nearest US embassy or consulate in any foreign country to inquire about their notarial services, procedures, and appointment requirements.

  2. Military Installation: If you are a member of the US military stationed overseas, you can often access notary services through the legal assistance office at your military installation. These offices typically provide notary services to service members and their dependents.

To get an appointment at a US embassy or consulate for notarial services, follow these general steps:

  1. Visit the Embassy or Consulate Website: Go to the official website of the US embassy or consulate nearest to you. Look for a section related to American Citizen Services (ACS) or consular services. This section usually provides information on notarial services, including how to schedule an appointment.

  2. Check Eligibility and Requirements: Review the eligibility criteria and specific requirements for notarial services. Typically, only US citizens or individuals with documents pertaining to US legal matters can use these services.

  3. Appointment System: Many US embassies and consulates use an online appointment system. Locate the link or button on the website that allows you to schedule an appointment for notarial services. Follow the instructions provided by the appointment system.

  4. Select Date and Time: Choose a convenient date and time for your appointment based on the availability shown in the appointment system. Be aware that appointment availability may vary depending on the embassy or consulate’s workload and local holidays.

  5. Fill Out Necessary Forms: Prior to your appointment, complete any required forms for notarial services. These forms are typically available for download on the embassy or consulate website. Bring these completed forms along with your identification and any other necessary documents to your appointment.

  6. Attend Your Appointment: Arrive at the embassy or consulate on time for your scheduled appointment. Bring your identification (e.g., passport or other government-issued ID) and the documents you need notarized. Follow any security procedures and be prepared to pay any applicable fees, if required.

  7. Receive Notarized Documents: After the notarization is complete, you will receive the notarized documents. Be sure to verify with the embassy or consulate if there are any additional steps or instructions for receiving your documents.

It’s important to note that procedures may vary slightly between different embassies and consulates, so it’s always best to consult the specific embassy or consulate website where you plan to have your documents notarized for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
